Church left Hollywood because of financing and the culture degraded

For 33 years from 1933 to 1966, the Church redeemed the values of Hollywood, which entered a Golden Age of success and power. Before 1933, American culture entered a decadent phase, a phase that ushered in the Great depression. That all changed when the Church became active again in Hollywood. In 1966, however, the church left Hollywood because of budgetary constraints. Look what happened after that – movies went from 100% G rated to 81% R rated, and the wonderful SOUND OF MUSIC turned into the Satanic cries of ROSEMARY'S BABY! You can help us change our culture!

Redeeming the Values of Hollywood Again

We are making a difference in the media industry. We have accomplished great things in the movie industry during the past 30 years. Recently, the Walt Disney Company decided to produce movies with action but no violence, romance but no sex, and dialogue but no foul language, mostly because of our Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry. We need, however, to begin making the same difference in the television industry, which has begun releasing its shows on the Internet to a media-savvy youthful audience.

Influencing culture through a youth pastor initiative and media-wise curriculum

We need to do more to help and protect children from media tyranny. Movieguide® has the tools, and the desire, to get these tools into the hands of children and their parental and faith-based guardians and teachers. What's New ...

A study released last week uncovers a trend that should be alarming to all parents: for the first time ever, today's American kids are less likely than their parents to graduate high school. Among industrialized nations, the United States is the only country in which that is true. These results come from a new report released by The Education Trust, a nonprofit organization that advocates on the behalf of poor and minority children.

The report, "Counting on Graduation," asserts that "policymakers in many states are setting graduation improvement targets that won't get our young people—or our nation—ready to compete in the knowledge-driven world of the 21st century.... Thus far, most states have neglected to establish the high expectations for improving graduation rates that will prompt action." To Think About ...

NCF CEO Carey Casey commented, "Dads, this is unacceptable. To borrow a word from author Juan Williams, 'Enough!' Williams directed his comments to the African American community, but this is a wake-up call for our entire culture. The federal and state governments are spending millions to help educate our children, but it isn't working. We must realize that we can't count on them or anyone else to take care of this.

"I believe this situation is urgent—especially for dads! We have to stand up! We know from the research that a father's involvement makes a positive difference in his children's educational achievement, so we should consider ourselves a big part of the solution. We have to get involved, starting with day one in kindergarten, and impress upon our kids how important their education is. Our commitment has to be more than just words; it should be evident in our presence, our involvement. In our economy, education is a huge factor in the opportunities our children will have. We need to be aware of what's going on in our children's schools, and we need to be involved in what's going on in their education—at school and at home. If they have plans and dreams about the future, we need to be there to help them make those plans and dreams come true. In the context of Championship Fathering, this is one way we coach our children."

For Faithful Fathers ...

God ordained that we should be our children's primary educators. Paul wasn't writing to church leaders or teachers when he stressed the importance of bringing up children "in the training and instruction of the Lord" (Eph 6:4). He was talking to us as fathers. When we stay connected with our children and monitor their educational development, we're able to guide and encourage them toward things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy (Phil. 4:8).

In the Trenches ...

Last week, Carey Casey spent two days in Miami at a conference sponsored by the Christian Community Development Association. This organization, which is focused on urban community development, sees clearly that reaching and involving dads must be part of the solution if they're going to be successful in changing struggling communities. Carey was there to affirm the importance of dads and share some ideas about how to engage them.

ACTION POINTS for Committed Dads

● Schedule a day to have lunch with your child at school (or preschool).

● Study your child—particularly his or her learning style. Here's a great source to help you. Share what you learn with your child's teacher and see if his/her assessment agrees with yours.

● Talk with your children about what vocation they might pursue someday. Without any pressure or expectations, help them match their interests and talents to possible career paths.

● Plan a father-child "field trip" to expose your kids to something new in your community.

● Volunteer one day a year at your child's school, like many dads who participate in our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) program.

● Pray in specific ways for your children's teachers and administrators, as well as for their friends and classmates. Pray for your children's performance, as well as for their being a light for Christ. (And tell your kids what your prayers are for them.)

The things we do everyday are displays of our character.

When we think about character, we tend to think about big things like taking risks, acting with integrity, displaying generosity, or exhibiting self-sacrifice. These noble choices indicate character, but for the most part our character is revealed in much smaller events like apologizing when we're wrong, giving to causes we believe in, being honest when it's embarrassing, and returning shopping carts.

One of my favorite stories is about a father who asked his son to return a cart they had just used. The son protested, "C'mon, Dad, there are carts all over. No one returns them. That's why they hire people to collect them."

After a short argument, Mom chimed in, "For heaven's sake, it's no big deal. Let's go."

Dad was about to surrender when he saw an elderly couple walking together to return their cart. After a moment, he said, "Son, there are two kinds of people in this world: those who put their carts away and those who don't. We're the kind who returns their shopping cart. Now go put it back."

This story isn't just about grocery carts. It's about doing the right thing in a world that seems to promote rationalizations and excuses that demean or trivialize simple acts of virtue. There are two kinds of people: those who find the strength to do what they ought to and those who find excuses not to.

People of character do the right thing even if no one else does, not because they think it will change the world but because they refuse to be changed by the world.

How to Dance in the Rain

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry...

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.

He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

With all the jokes and fun that are in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. This one I thought I could share with you.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about. I just did.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEAR brings the TV phenomenon to the big screen. The movie continues the story of East High in Albuquerque. The jeopardy comes from two directions. Sharpay, the most snobbish, self-centered girl in the school, wants Troy, the basketball star, so badly that she will do anything to get him, including hurting her classmates. Troy's girlfriend, Gabriella, is considering early admission to Stanford. If she succeeds, however, it will destroy the senior class play, a musical about the high school, and keep her from the prom. These opposing forces create conflict throughout the preparation of the big high school play.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 may be thin on plot, but so were many of the Hollywood musicals during the 1930s, 40s and 50s. At any given moment, the students break out into song and dance to express themselves. The numbers are fun, clean and full of dynamic energy. The good news is that, including a teenage kiss, there is nothing remotely salacious in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3. Finally, unlike most other Hollywood movies about young people, the heroes do the right thing instead of following their heart.

BILLY: THE EARLY YEARS is the story of Billy Graham's conversion and call to the ministry, Bible college experience, and early career. The movie tells the story of Billy Graham from the point of view of his nemesis, Charles Templeton, a self-centered, one time evangelist and friend of Billy's who eventually rejected Christ and tried to convince Billy to do the same. The movie follows Billy Graham's conversion, his struggles at college and his early preaching career after the Holy Spirit anointed him with the power of effective teaching and preaching.

There is a lot of good in BILLY: THE EARLY YEARS. Martin Landau is excellent as Billy's mentor and eventual nemesis. As Billy, Armie Hammer is good at the drama and good at the comedy. That said, the beginning lacks jeopardy, and the comedy detracts from the drama. A little editing would help a lot. For those who know the story of Billy Graham, this is an interesting tale. For those who do not, it is still a good biography. The good news is that people will hear the Good News of Jesus Christ if they see BILLY: THE EARLY YEARS.

Today is Thursday, October 9, 2008.

On this day in history:

1635 - Colonial American Separatist Roger Williams was banished from
Massachusetts for preaching that civil government had no right
to interfere in religious affairs. (Williams was seeking to
establish freedom of worship through the separation of church
and state.)
1776 - Spanish missionaries dedicated the first mission chapel on the
northern California coast at Yerba Buena. (In 1847, the city
which grew up around the mission changed its name to San
Francisco.)
1842 - Episcopal missionary James L. Breck was ordained a priest at
Duck Creek, WI. In 1850, this "apostle of the wilderness"
moved to Minnesota and in 1858 founded the Seabury Divinity
School. It is said that "no priest did more for the Episcopal
Church in the West than Breck."
1845 - Cofounder of the Oxford Movement in England, churchman John
Henry Newman made his celebrated conversion from Anglicanism
to Catholicism. From 1845-1862, nearly 250 other English
clergy followed Newman into the Roman Catholic faith
1747 - Colonial missionary to the New England Indians, David Brainerd
died of tuberculosis (brought on by exposure) at age 29.
Following his death, the publication of "Brainerd's Journal"
by Jonathan Edwards influenced hundreds to become missionaries
after him.

Green Bay Wins Lawsuit, Sending The "Freedom From Religion Foundation" Packing

Yesterday afternoon, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by the Freedom From Religion Foundation against the City of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Liberty Counsel successfully represented the City in a controversy over last year's Christmas display with a Nativity scene at City Hall. Last month, David Corry, Senior Litigation Counsel for Liberty Counsel, argued the case on behalf of the city.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) uses intimidation and threats of attorney's fees against local communities who take any action that might acknowledge religion. FFRF is the most extreme, anti-religious, separationist organization in the country, claiming that its members are atheists and agnostics.

Freedom from Religion Foundation is based in Madison, Wisconsin, but also spreads its poisonous anti-God agenda into other states. The group recently sued the the Cherry Creek School District in Denver, Colorado because local schools officials integrate positive principles into their program. The FFRF claims that some of the principles taught are drawn from biblical teachings.

For example, one principle is creating a "caring school climate." FFRF claims this principle is linked to the teaching in the New Testament book of Mark, which says, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name, welcomes me." FFRF does not like the fact that Christians may have played a role in developing the school program.

Thank you for your prayers and support as we do battle against groups like FFRF, the ACLU, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and other radical, anti-religious groups that attempt to demolish the religious foundation of America.

On this day in history:

-451 - The Council of Chalcedon opened, near Constantinople. Dealing
mainly with the Eutychian Christological heresy, the council
created a confession of faith which has ever since been
regarded as the highest word in Early Christian orthodoxy.
1901 - The American branch of Overseas Missionary Fellowship was
chartered. Founded as the China Inland Mission in 1865 by
missionary pioneer J. Hudson Taylor, OMF adopted its present
name at its centennial celebration in 1965.
1917 - New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary was chartered in New
Orleans by P. I. Lipsey. The school opened for its first
classes in September 1918.
1924 - In New York City, the National Lutheran Conference banned the
playing of jazz music in the local churches.
1986 - The first North American Congress on the Holy Spirit and World
Evangelization opened in New Orleans. It drew 7,000 leaders
from 40 denominations, and stressed the part which the
charismatic experience plays in evangelization.

Only One Mommy: The Story of Lisa and Isabella Miller

Activist judges in Vermont have declared that a legal stranger is a mommy to another woman's biological child. Now, a Vermont judge will decide whether to order that the six year old little girl be stripped from the loving arms of the only mommy she has ever known -- her biological mother, Lisa.

Lisa Miller left the homosexual lifestyle and became a Christian when Isabella was 17 months old. Janet Jenkins, who was Lisa's same-sex partner when Lisa gave birth to Isabella, then sought full custody of Isabella, claiming she was a parent even though she was not biologically related to Isabella and never sought to adopt her.

Not only did Vermont create new law from the bench to declare that Isabella has two mommies, but appellate courts in Virginia (the state where Isabella was born and has lived all but 13 months of her life) directed Virginia to fully recognize the Vermont orders giving Janet (who lives in Vermont) liberal unsupervised visitation. In doing so, the courts ignored Virginia's Marriage Amendment and marriage laws declaring all rights arising from same-sex relationships void and unenforceable.

Now, a judge in Vermont on October 27 will hear Janet's argument that she should get full custody!

We are asking you to help us spread the word about the ongoing legal case that directly impacts the life of six-year old child Isabella and the future of this Nation.

If Vermont can declare from the bench that a legal stranger is a mommy to another woman's child and then have it enforced in a state with one of the strongest marriage amendments in the country, then, on the issues of marriage and family, our country will no longer be the United States of America but instead will be the United States according to Massachusetts, California, or Vermont.

We are trying to rally support for Lisa by promoting a group on Facebook called Only One Mommy: The Story of Lisa and Isabella Miller. This group was created by Rena Lindevaldsen, a Liberty Counsel attorney and law school professor at Liberty University School of Law.

That Judge Cohen in Vermont will not order Lisa to turn over Lisa's daughter to Janet
That the judges in the Virginia cases will follow Virginia law.
Supreme Court Justices who are considering our request for the Court hear the Miller cases
Salvation for Janet Jenkins, who is trying to take full custody of Lisa's daughter
Safety for Lisa's little girl, Isabella
God's continued strength and grace for Lisa
That the President and Senators who will be elected in November will be those who will support the right judges
That people of this Nation will realize the importance of this issue for the entire country

Critical Dates:

Now - We are waiting to hear whether the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to hear our appeal from the Vermont Supreme Court.

October 27 - hearing in Vermont where Janet is asking for full custody because Lisa has not given visitation (out of concern for Isabella's physical and mental safety).

Janet's attorneys are pressing for an immediate hearing in Virginia to enforce the Vermont visitation (and possibly switch of custody) orders.

December 7 - U.S. Supreme Court Justices will conference together to consider whether to hear our appeal from the Virginia Supreme Court.

To Think About ...

Even though times may be hard for you, please don't get discouraged. Don't bail out on your role. It is true—providing for your children and protecting them during the storms of life are key parts of your fathering role. Ken Canfield documented this in his research and his 7 Secrets of Effective Fathers book. But even if you're between jobs or you aren't satisfied with where your career is headed, you can still be a vital part of your children's lives. What you provide for them goes far beyond what you earn. In fact, with all the talk about a national financial crisis, your children likely feel the uncertainty, too, and need to be reassured.

Let me share three ideas that I hope will encourage you:

First, be strong. Don't cower or make excuses or start blaming others. It's time to be strong—not in dominance, but in service. As hard as your situation may be, you can't lose your poise. Difficult times often reveal a man's real character. Remember that you're setting an important example for your children and others.

Second, be courageous. Often, it takes courage to step out and take a chance and try something different, but that's how you win championships. Through challenges and defeats, your family members might learn more than they could otherwise—like how to depend on each other in a deeper way.

Third, do the work. Don't let temporary setbacks keep you from providing love and support for your family members. Now is a good time to review your finances and plan ahead so you can weather any economic storm. And if you don't have a job at the moment, continue to be a devoted father in the meantime. Step up your involvement in other areas of your children's lives, and find ways to help others.

For Faithful Fathers ...

Those three points come from 1 Chronicles 28:20, where David is talking to his son, Solomon, about building the temple. David continues, "for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you ...." Because of God's presence in our lives, we can be confident even during times of crisis. We can "be strong and courageous." We can "do the work" God has called us to, at home and in our careers. God always equips us for what He has called us to do.

In the Trenches ...

We just passed our first milestone on the road to creating a culture of Championship Fathering in America—literally! Our vision is to see 10% of the dads in America—6.5 million fathers—lined up, shoulder-to-shoulder, expressing their commitment to our nation's children. Steps That Make a Difference

September 30th, 2008

Dear Michael,

This past week we've seen the network and cable news programs swirling with information about banks and savings and loans failing; debates about the U.S. government stepping in to insure or bail out these financial institutions; then watching as the "blame game" happens between political parties and candidates for office. I am reminded yet again of the security and stability we have as people of faith based on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ.

In the midst of the storms of life, let's remember who can calm the waves with just one word. Brother Kenneth and Sister Gloria Copeland have a beautifully framed statement in their home that reads, "One Word from God can change your life." How true that is. That is why we, as Christians, can have hope and assurance in the midst of life, when it seems as though so many are filled with panic and fear.

Do Not Fear...Have Faith

The phrases "fear not" or "do not be afraid" appears over 365 times in the Bible. How about that? One for every day of the year…plus some. That's exactly how the Lord works…infusing hope, joy, love into our lives…conquering fear.

I invite you to take a few moments now to build your faith as you affirm these Scriptures that bring hope and conquer fear:

"If God is for us, who [can be] against us?... He who did not withhold or spare [even] His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all [other] things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect [when it is] God Who justifies...? Who shall come forward and accuse or impeach those whom God has chosen? Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us. For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:31-33; 37-39, The Amplified Bible).

"Fear not, believe only…." (Luke 8:50)

"But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head." (Psalm 3:3, AMP)

"The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped…." (Psalm 28:7, AMP)

Where Can Your Life Go? As Far As You Can Believe.

Recently I saw a beautiful picture of a log cabin and the White House. Between the log cabin and the White House, there was a ladder. Standing at the bottom of the ladder, looking up to the White House, was a caricature of Abraham Lincoln.

A little boy who was looking at the picture asked his mother, "Mommy, what does it mean?" "It means Abraham Lincoln climbed the ladder all the way from the log cabin to the White House." Then she added, "Look son, at the line that's under the picture." Under the picture was the line, "The ladder is still there."

There is a ladder for you, my friend. It can take you from where you are to where you want to go. All you need is faith in God and a dream in your heart. A dream is just another word for believing God loves you and wants you to succeed.

No matter where you are in life right now, economically, culturally or physically, you can climb up. With God's help you can be stronger tomorrow than you are today.

Do you want to go up the ladder from a log cabin to the White House? Maybe so…or maybe not. But, you do have goals and dreams, don't you? I offer these four timeless, classical concepts to you today as steps, the rungs of the ladder of your success:

A—Adopt an attitude that is positive

B—Believe in and practice the boundaries of the Ten Commandments

C—Sharpen your caring concern for other people

D—Listen for direction from the Holy Spirit

These four steps can change your life. Start by asking the question, "Where is God leading me to make a difference today?"

This week I've included three articles for you to look at regarding the current financial issues facing our nation. We read articles such as these to keep up with current discussion and thought, but we need to remember we are not moved by what we read, for we read through the eyes of faith:

Affirm Generosity, Deny Scarcity

Psalm 150, the last Psalm in the Book, is an exuberant expression of amazement at God's goodness. It affirms, "Praise God, Praise God with the lute, Praise God with the trumpet, Praise, Praise, Praise." At the beginning of the Bible, we find in Genesis 1 a song of praise for God's generosity. It tells how well God ordered the world and keeps saying, "It is good, it is good, it is very good." And in Psalm 104, the longest of the creation Psalms, is a commentary on Genesis 1. Here the Bible affirms God's faithfulness saying God is utterly reliable; verses 27-28 (AMP) remind us; "These all wait and are dependent upon You, that You may give them their food in due season. When you give it to them, they gather it up; You open Your hand, and they are filled with good things."

Together, these three scriptures proclaim God's abundant power in the world today. Genesis 1 affirms generosity and denies scarcity. Psalm 104 celebrates the joy of creation and rejects or as Brother Jerry Savelle says, "vetoes" anxiety and Psalm 150 encourages us to abandon ourselves to God….knowing He has it all under control.

Our faith is not just about spiritual matters. The closer we stay to Jesus, the more we will bring a new economy of abundance to the world. This has nothing to do with being Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative. It is much more elemental…creation itself is infused with God's generosity. We must find ways in this 21st century environment in which we live, to make God's abundance known, tangible and active in people's lives. Fear leads to a scarcity mentality…faith leads to abundance.

We are glad to report your actions are making a difference! Officials at AMC theaters have pulled the film "Hounddog" from its few theaters involved, and a report blamed the move on "mounting pressure from family values groups upset about a rape scene."

If you haven't already, please take action today:

1. Send an email to the Motion Picture Association of America, chastising them for giving these movies an "R" rating only. Most theaters refuse to carry "M" rated movies, which this one clearly classifies as.

2. Contact your local theater and urge them not to carry Hounddog or Towelhead. These abominable movies present a danger to children in every community in which they are shown. Remember to thank them if they are not carrying the movies but politely and firmly advise them that carrying it places them in the "We approve of child abuse" category.

OneMillionDads is calling for action against two child sex movies and the theaters in which they are being shown.

Hounddog and Towelhead both contain implied sex scenes with children and gratuitous sexual content throughout.

"These despicable movies promote pedophilia, whether intentionally or unintentionally," said Dr. Ted Baehr of Movieguide.com. "There should be a massive public outcry against them. The inclusion of children in sexually explicit films is inappropriate. There is also no excuse for the authorities to allow such material to be shown publicly."

Baehr agrees with a movie reviewer from Fox News who called Towelhead "kiddie porn" and Hounddog "just more of the same kind of filth." To use Baehr's terms, we believe both films could be described as "abhorrent disgusting pedophilia."

Hounddog, rated R for a disturbing sexual assault of a young girl, and brief sexuality, opened in 11 theaters last weekend, six of them in Los Angeles.

Towelhead, rated R for language and strong disturbing sexual content and abuse involving a young teen, expands to 98 theaters next Friday, September 26.

Take Action

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointmen t this morning, as he was in such a hurry...

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.

He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

With all the jokes and fun that are in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. This one I thought I could share with you.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about. I just did.

Join the BOYCOTT vs. Hallmark for its 'Gay Wedding' Cards

Family Policy Network (FPN) is calling for a nation-wide boycott against America's largest greeting card company for aligning itself with liberal activists who want to redefine morality and the institution of marriage. FPN announced the boycott against Hallmark Cards, Inc. after the company introduced new greeting cards aimed at "congratulating" homosexuals who enter into so-called "gay marriage" contracts and "civil unions."

According to an 8/21/08 news story from the Associated Press, Hallmark spokeswoman Sarah Kolell said the company introduced the pro-homosexual cards in an attempt to be "relevant" to as many consumers as possible.

Yet the Bible states in Isaiah 5:20:

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (NKJV)

It is likewise clear that God is the Author of marriage, and His design is expressed very clearly in the New Testament by Jesus Christ, who declared in Mark 10:6-8:

"But from the beginning of the creation, God 'made them male and female.' 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh." (NKJV)

Despite these warnings in Scripture, Hallmark now offers cards that celebrate homosexual "marriage." The cards use various forms of clear homosexual symbolism, including rainbow-colored hearts and an image of two tuxedos, side-by-side.

This is not the only way that Hallmark endorses homosexual immorality. According to the Associated Press, the company also distributes cards designed to "show support" for homosexuals upon their "coming out," which is a slang term referring to one's initial declaration of their homosexual perversion.

Despite claiming they want to appeal to as many people as possible, the decision-makers at Hallmark clearly have no problem offending millions of pro-family Americans who know the Bible declares in Proverbs 14:34:

"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." (NKJV)

This is a defining moment in the war over marriage and the family as an enduring institution. Rather than broadening its customer base, Hallmark is choosing sides in the culture war - - against Biblical morality. After all, endorsing homosexuality is an offense to God, and it is an offense to Bible-believing Christians everywhere.

Hallmark says their move was a result of "public demand," rather than political pressure. But what if a significant portion of its customers demanded Hallmark discontinue their promotion of homosexuality? Would they reverse course?

Hallmark's annual revenue last year was over $4 billion, prompting FPN Policy Analyst Alex Mason to ask, "What if hundreds of thousands of Americans decided to take their business elsewhere because of the company's pro-homosexual actions? Would the 'gay marriage' cards make up for the lost revenue from pro-family Americans who buy other brands?" He answered, "I doubt it."

No matter what kind of reaction Hallmark has to a boycott, Mason believes Christians are called to take moral stands and to confront immorality in the culture whenever possible.

Mason said, "Jesus commanded us to be 'salt and light.' That's why we're calling on Christians to draw a line in the sand and refuse to do business with Hallmark unless and until they drop their pro-homosexual cards from their line of products."

Last weekend the movie HOUNDDOG opened in several theaters across the United States. It stars Dakota Fanning as a pre-teen girl who gets raped after dancing naked in front of a teenage boy.

This is not entertainment. It is moral decay.

Raping children is NOT acceptable content for movies.

HOUNDDOG was actually made with the financial assistance of the taxpayers of North Carolina. Yet, state officials there have refused to take any action against the filmmakers of this despicable, R-rated movie!!!

In the 1930s, churches rose up against Hollywood depravity, and Hollywood instituted the Motion Picture Code to get churchgoers back into theaters. This code would not have permitted the production of HOUNDDOG.

In 1966, the code was abandoned because churches and Christians quit supporting Christian offices in Hollywood that read and approved scripts. The return to depravity was quick. Very quickly Hollywood was putting out such films as MIDNIGHT COWBOY featuring homosexual prostitutes.

That's why I started the MOVIEGUIDE® and the Christian Film & Television Commission® ministry, to return Hollywood to the days when the Protestant Film Office and the Catholic League of Decency cleaned the screens of such depravity like HOUNDDOG.

Will America's churches now stand for anything?

What's New ...

In the past few months, several of our messages have encouraged you to make the most of every opportunity you have with your children, because your time with them is fleeting. This week, we heard about one dad who came up with a great way to be purposeful about the time he has left with his three teenagers at home.

Bob and his family have occasional family get-togethers where everyone has a chance to talk about what's going on and share concerns they may have. One day Bob came to the family time with this exercise: each of the kids had to come up with five things they wanted to learn before they leave home. Bob and his wife both listed five things they wanted their children to learn as well. His kids listed: how to fix things on the car; how to manage their time; how to find a job; how to cook eggs and French toast; how to fix or replace a faucet. What would your kids say?

To Think About ...

Coaching our children is a big and never-ending task. There are hundreds or even thousands of things they need to see and do and learn. Even if they try to hide it, they realize that they don't know everything. They know they'll leave home one day, and there's a lot of information and skills they'll need if they're going to do well on their own. A big part of our job is to prepare them for that time.

So, your number one action point for today is to follow Bob's lead and ask your kids what they want to learn from you. Start with five things for now; you can always add to them later, or start a new list once you have this one checked off. It's a great exercise to help get some specific goals in front of you for each of your kids. It's so important to have your priorities straight and make the most of every opportunity that you have with your children.

For Faithful Fathers ...

Many faithful fathers will want to add "a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ" to the list of what they want their children to have before leaving home. Surprisingly, a 2005 survey by the Barna Group found that, even among Christian parents, their children's salvation came in third among the things they wanted most for their kids—behind "a good education" and "to feel loved." Only 3 out of 10 born-again parents even mentioned salvation among their top desired outcomes for their children. Of course, other things are important, but is anything as critical as your children's salvation? And, the closer your children are to Christ and seeking God's will, the better chance that every other goal you have for them will fall into place.

Al Way and Sam Jones held sessions in Washington, D.C., Alabama and Illinois, and their efforts have resulted in 20 new father-trainers. ACTION POINTS for Committed Dads

● Follow Bob's lead: challenge your children to come up with 5 things they'd like to learn before they leave home.

● Talk with your children's mother about an age-appropriate goal or skill for each of your children to learn (and for you to work on with them) during the next month—tying shoe laces, doing dishes, mowing the grass, finding useful information on the Internet.

● Give your children a glimpse of your budget and regular bills you pay, so they gain a better understanding of how much it costs just to keep the lights on and food in the pantry.

● No matter what your child's age, recruit him or her to assist you this weekend as you take care of a home maintenance task.

● Help your kids find authors that they love to read.

● Encourage your children to study the Proverbs, where they can see that some lessons are thousands of years old.

What's New ...

I know it seems like there's a new holiday popping up all the time these days, but I believe this one is worthy of our attention. Today, September 12th, is the National Day of Encouragement. It began with some high school students in Searcy, AR, in June of 2007. They decided that at the root of most problems, such as drugs and alcohol, lies discouragement. Their suggested solution was to have a day where everyone focuses on encouraging one another. They are encouraging kids and adults around the country to get together and find ways to encourage other people around them. More about the holiday.

To Think About ...

Here at the National Center for Fathering, I take my role as CEO—that's Chief Encouragement Officer—very seriously. And I believe we fathers can be a huge positive influence in our children's lives—more than any of us probably realize—through simple words and acts of encouragement. We should all lead our families by example in this area; "Chief Encouragement Officer" should be right at the top of all our fathering job descriptions.

Years ago it came to me that if you push a person down by being negative or constantly degrading or belittling them, then you end up going down with them. Pushing others down takes you down. But in the same way, as you push another person up, you go up. You stretch your arms up, your face looks up, and you go with the person you're elevating. It's a simple concept: life will go better and people will be healthier if we focus on the positive.

Encouragement is one of the greatest strengths we can bring to our families, because we fathers have the power to instill confidence and hope and life. On the other hand, we can also discourage family members easily by being over-critical or too distant. For many of us, encouragement doesn't come naturally; it really takes some intentionality. Our positive comments to our children need to outweigh the negative by six or seven to one. We need to watch and expect them to do something good, so we can praise and encourage them instead of always looking for ways to correct them.

ACTION POINTS for Committed Dads

● Jot down some notes about each of your family members: positive character traits, gifts and abilities, recent acts of kindness, etc. Having those in your mind will help you carry out the next action point ...

● Tell each of your family members one thing about them that you admire or appreciate. Make sure to do this at least once during the next two days.

● Pay careful attention to how you talk to your children—not only the words but also tone and volume. Make every effort to be positive, and avoid being even mildly sarcastic or degrading.

● When your child shows fear or struggles with a certain endeavor, take some extra time to work one-on-one with your child on that challenge. Or simply do something together that he or she enjoys.

● Commit yourself to leave family members weekly "encouragrams"—short, positive written messages to brighten their day.

Tuesday night was chicken night at the restaurant where I worked as a waitress, but on this Tuesday few customers ordered it. "Take some home," said the manager. The chicken was greasy, so I wrapped it in plastic, a box and a bag.

The last customers lingered, and we closed late. Missing the last bus, I began walking home through deserted Milwaukee streets. Unable to afford a cab, I prayed and sang a hymn. God would see me home safely.
