Focus...

Our supply is not from our government...
Our supply is from the LORD.
He provides our every need, not our every want.
He uses all things for good.

Lord, help me remember this, and so much more, every day...

Shopping Carts & Character

Shopping Carts & Character

The things we do everyday are displays of our character.

When we think about character, we tend to think about big things like taking risks, acting with integrity, displaying generosity, or exhibiting self-sacrifice. These noble choices indicate character, but for the most part our character is revealed in much smaller events like apologizing when we're wrong, giving to causes we believe in, being honest when it's embarrassing, and returning shopping carts.

One of my favorite stories is about a father who asked his son to return a cart they had just used. The son protested, "C'mon, Dad, there are carts all over. No one returns them. That's why they hire people to collect them."

After a short argument, Mom chimed in, "For heaven's sake, it's no big deal. Let's go."

Dad was about to surrender when he saw an elderly couple walking together to return their cart. After a moment, he said, "Son, there are two kinds of people in this world: those who put their carts away and those who don't. We're the kind who returns their shopping cart. Now go put it back."

This story isn't just about grocery carts. It's about doing the right thing in a world that seems to promote rationalizations and excuses that demean or trivialize simple acts of virtue. There are two kinds of people: those who find the strength to do what they ought to and those who find excuses not to.

People of character do the right thing even if no one else does, not because they think it will change the world but because they refuse to be changed by the world.

How to Dance in the Rain

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry...

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.

He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

With all the jokes and fun that are in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. This one I thought I could share with you.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about. I just did.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm,

But how to dance in the rain...

MOVIEGUIDE® REVIEW: FIREPROOF

Quality: * * * *
Acceptability: +4

FIREPROOF is an incredibly gripping, compelling, heartrending, transformational story about saving a marriage that is on the rocks. Kirk Cameron stars as Caleb Holt, a fire chief in a small town who gets respect from everyone except his wife, Katherine, played by Erin Bethea. Katherine is the public relations officer of the local hospital. Caleb and Katherine fight about everything. Their marriage seems to have no hope, but Caleb's father asks him to take 40 days to work through a personal journal to change the way he treats Katherine. Caleb agrees, but Katherine is already interested in a doctor at the hospital. Only faith in Jesus Christ and repentance can save their relationship.

The ending to FIREPROOF is powerful, emotional and in many ways unexpected. The Kendrick brothers, who also made FACING THE GIANTS with help from their church in Albany, Georgia, display an incredible amount of talent. Their story is perfectly plotted. Kirk Cameron does an excellent job turning Caleb into a real person. Despite its low budget, FIREPROOF is a stirring presentation of the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the power of God's amazing grace.

Another blog?

Yes... I'm sure that I'll overwhelm myself, let alone anyone who actually reads all these things...
Since my other blogs are devoted to Politcs (CihaBlog) and Fun (CihaFun), this one (CihaFaith) is devoted likewise.
